Meet Scarlett — a beautiful chestnut Gypsy Vanner mare with a shiny reddish-brown coat, a flowing brown mane, and the fluffy fur over her hooves that Gypsy Vanners are famous for, called feathers. Scarlett is strong and powerful, calm and gentle, and she loves to be around people. She lives at Raven Hill with her little filly-daughter, Kashmir.
Kashmir is a smoky-black bundle of joy. Like her mama, she is a Gypsy Vanner, with a bright white blaze on her face and shaggy white feathers on her legs. Kashmir loves to explore the paddock and discover new things every day. She gallops through the fuzzy dandelions and sends the seeds flying up like tiny white clouds in the wind. Even active fillies get tired, and when Kashmir finally tucks herself into her cozy stall on a bed of golden straw, she dreams of what new adventures tomorrow will bring.
In this first book, young readers spend a full day at Raven Hill alongside Scarlett and Kashmir — discovering salt blocks and bluebirds, learning what feathers and blazes are, watching a filly nap in the soft green grass, and settling in as the sky turns orange and pink at sunset. Every illustrated spread is paired with its own coloring page, so children can bring Scarlett, Kashmir, and the farm to life in their own colors.
